At Design Interviews

Interview with Therese Virserius : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Therese Virserius : We wanted the guests and professionals who stayed at the Hyatt Regency Charles de Gaulle to be energized creatively, physically and socially the minute they walk in. We wanted to create an optimal environment that boosted cohesion and collaboration. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Therese Virserius : The goal was to feed guests in a completely holistic way, from the layout and design of spaces, to the food available for consumption. One can stay for long periods of time, taking a break during the time there to play arcade games or eat before resuming work or meetings. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Therese Virserius : The process from concept to execution took approximately 8 months. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Therese Virserius : No .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Therese Virserius : We wanted to create a space the blended our deep expertise in architecture and design with our passion and extensive background in fine art. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Therese Virserius : Le Campus is unique in that collaborative workspaces of this sort do not typically reside in hotels, but it is a concept that makes sense, given the number of busy professionals who stay at the Hyatt Regency. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Therese Virserius : Le Campus was inspired by the American college campus experience, a time when people are at their most creative, willing to take chances and collaborate. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Therese Virserius : What is most unique is just how flexible it is. Le Campus seamlessly transitions between work and social function. Also, the inclusion of fine art, from the wall graffiti to the digital installations in the main room, is a departure from typical notions of a meeting and event space. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Therese Virserius : Our experience with Le Campus, working with Blackstone and Hyatt from ideation through completion, was a delight. We knew we had something special here, and wanted to share it with peers and the public. We are deeply honoured that it has been recognized by such an esteemed panel. .
