Interview with Yang Song : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Yang Song : Living objects. The relationships and stories between people and their belongings are the main inspiration of this design. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Yang Song : I intended to create an imaginative world, in which all the objects could move and react. The difficulty was how to make this real. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Yang Song : I would like to develop this whole concept as a long term programme. I think this design will become a symbol of me as an experimental industrial designer. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Yang Song : It took me around two months to get this concept. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Yang Song : I just want to share the concept of cherishing daily objects with other people within a dramatic design language. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Yang Song : I am also a designer maker. Therefore, I intend to make them by myself and perhaps not for commercial purpose. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Yang Song : The love of objects. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Yang Song : My tutor, Terry Rosenberg helped me a lot on theoretical thinking. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Yang Song : For all. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Yang Song : It is unique because the reactions of the objects are reflected by their users, so anyone could create his/ her own clockwork world. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Yang Song : The little details that we do not realize in our daily lives. So it means the unfamiliar elements within the familiar life. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Yang Song : 2D and 3D software, woodworking tools, metalworking tools, silicon rubber tool, etc. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Yang Song : crazy but sweat. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Yang Song : The technicians at Goldsmiths Design Department. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Yang Song : Technology should always serve humanity. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Yang Song : Memory is the data collection of this project. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Yang Song : The way of expressing the concept. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Yang Song : I am confident with my design and I just intend to participate into this top level design party. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Yang Song : Design should always be honest to the designer himself/herself, and then it might impress the users/audience. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?. Yang Song : Thanks to my sweat childhood given by my parents. .
