Interview with Terence Simmons : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Terence Simmons : I came up with this design while on crutches. My old back pack was uncomfortable when I used my crutches, so I altered it to go through my hoodie, and the swack concept was born. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Terence Simmons : My main focus was functionality, I wanted it to look good and be functional as well. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Terence Simmons : Keep enhancing it with different colors and newer generations. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Terence Simmons : It took me about 4-6 months to get it perfect. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Terence Simmons : Like I mention in the previos question I came up with this design when I was on crutches. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Terence Simmons : My design is now for sale at swackonline.com, and I wouldn't mine selling or leasing the production rights. This design is patent pending. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Terence Simmons : I designed this particular item off of a concept I came up with when I was injured. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Terence Simmons : No. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Terence Simmons : My target customer is the youth(kids, teens of either gender) .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Terence Simmons : There is nothing similar to this in the world, at least that I know of. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Terence Simmons : The name comes from the fusing of the words SWeater pACK. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Terence Simmons : I had a my mom sew a concept together for me. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Terence Simmons : The unique aspects of this design is the hidden straps of the backpack. If you look at the design from the front you can't tell that your wearing a backpack. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Terence Simmons : I worked with this young amazing designer. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Terence Simmons : velcro, quick snaps. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Terence Simmons : No. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Terence Simmons : Finding a factory who could produce the design. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Terence Simmons : I seen the A'Design award mentioned on Yanko.com website. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Terence Simmons : I live in Chicago, il. I learned how to design and produce and item through this whole process. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?. Terence Simmons : I am submitting the 2 Gen Swack Fusion Pack to the A'design award so look out for that next year. .
