Interview with Zohreh Hosseini : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Zohreh Hosseini : Sometimes people are so immersed in the daily routines of life that they even lose their selves. Once, in a crowded place, I was standing quiet aside for a moment, looked at the faces of the people around me and asked myself: "who are we?". This question with which my mind is often involved, as well as Avicenna's "Suspended Man" hypothesis had strong influence in shaping the idea of this design. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Zohreh Hosseini : The significant point in designing this pair of earrings is something far more than just a piece of gold. In fact I like it when it attracts people's attention and stimulates them to look and think upon it even for a few minutes. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Zohreh Hosseini : About 6 months. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Zohreh Hosseini : The desire to designing a different jewelry from Things that are available in the market. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Zohreh Hosseini : Everyone, especially those who think about themselves and the world around. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Zohreh Hosseini : I have seen a great variation of jewelry designs from all over the world. The designs are mostly originated from nature, flowers, or birds and etc. But I believe that a piece of jewelry can be much more than a decorating object. These pieces can tell us a lot about their owners and we can use this basic opinion in this field. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Zohreh Hosseini : The basic inspiration came from Rumi's famous poem, from which the main extract is :This world is like a mountain. Your Echo depends on you. "Reflection of the sounds" which happens in the mountains has always been a focal and significant matter in Mysticism. Probably this is the reason they find it the best place for thinking and meditation. In my opinion, what every person builds to be his own world, is in fact the reflection of his thought, behavior and actions. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Zohreh Hosseini : I think the concept of "Reflection Earring". Every person has a body, but he is known through his face which in fact constitutes a very small part of the whole body. And now, is my face my own self? Who am I? My eye is my own eye, my ear my own ear, and higher than this my soul is my own soul. But who is my own self. I am. Here we have two words: I and my essence. When we talk about “I”, it means” me”, before realizing my essence. Even if I doubt about my being, this is again “I”, who doubts. Therefore we can never reject “I”. The” essence” also exists since I find my own essence before realizing any other phenomenon. I am myself even if I do not express it, even if I do not think about it. Certainly I am “my own self”. Avicenna, the great Iranian Philosopher, gives a proof for the substantiality of the soul that renders it capable of existing by itself apart from the body. This proof was famous in medieval times, in Europe also, and is called the “proof of the suspended man.” Avicenna asks us to suppose a person to be born adult and suspended in a vacuum where there is no air to resist him and, finally, to suppose that the parts of his body are so situated vis-à-vis each other that no part can touch others, then in that case such a person will not affirm the existence of anything external to him nor yet of his own body but he will still say, “I am”. This assertion of self-consciousness apart from the body is the basis upon which the existence of the soul as a purely spiritual being is established. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Zohreh Hosseini : I really liked to have my design be tested in a serious competition as a beginner. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Zohreh Hosseini : As I mentioned earlier, I tried to test and perform my design on many people from different levels of society with different viewpoints. During this process, I was involved with their opinions and philosophies concerning jewelry. Therefore, I was familiar with their views about my field, and certainly I learned a lot. Moreover, I studied Avicenna's hypothesis " Suspended Man", and was much more acquainted with this great man. .
