Interview with Diana Sokolic : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Diana Sokolic : People do not like to use walking canes because they are the sign of old age or disability. That is why I have created a stick which is not only a helping tool but is beautiful at the same time. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Diana Sokolic : I wanted to show that people do not need to be old or disabled to use walking sticks and that even if they are -old and/or disabled,they can look smart and elegant. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Diana Sokolic : I hope that someone will start producing my design. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Diana Sokolic : Since the concept is very simple,designing did not take much time. The technical part was more complicated. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Diana Sokolic : My plan or better say wish is to sell the production rights. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Diana Sokolic : Very few things are designed for elderly people. Things that ARE designed are usually just helping tools with no beauty.I wanted to make something that would be both helpful and pretty. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Diana Sokolic : The target customer for my design is every man and woman who needs walking aid, no matter of age. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Diana Sokolic : There are no resembling concepts. That is why this one is awarded. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Diana Sokolic : Marlene Dietrich and Maurice Chevalier were two famous actors who used walking canes with class and elegance. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Diana Sokolic : The light in the cane is the most unique and innovative aspect of my design. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Diana Sokolic : I have collaborated with some engineers who work with LED light. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Diana Sokolic : The role of technology is, I would say, one third. The other two thirds are idea and design. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Diana Sokolic : I had ti research the forms of walking sticks, their height, durability and I had to find out the way of making it glow. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Diana Sokolic : The biggest challenge in realization was to find the way of putting the light, the battery and the button in a space 2x1 cm .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Diana Sokolic : I thought that my design was enough innovative to win. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Diana Sokolic : During the designing process I always learn to be patient and not to abandon it because of the obstacles which appear by default. .
