Aesthetics and Chinese
Aesthetics and Chinese is a series of posters based on the design of Chinese characters. The structure of each character is built from its radical strokes, which are presented in rotating and gradual arrangements. The series turns written text into visual symbols and uses font design as a contemporary form of expression. Posters, invitation cards and a book were printed to highlight the character forms. The posters measure 70 by 100 centimetres. The work presents Chinese language and characters as a lasting cultural asset of Oriental culture.
Aesthetics and Chinese Characters by TANG-HSUAN LIEN was highlighted as a creative example of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Aesthetics and Chinese Characters received the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2020. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program which honors outstanding design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
