Math Alive

Dynamic graphic motifs enrich the learning effect of math in the blended learning environment. Parabolic graphs from mathematics inspired the logo design. Letter A and V are connected with a continuous line, demonstrating the interaction between an educator and a student. It conveys the message that Math Alive guides users to become whiz kids in math. The key visuals represent the transformation of abstract math concepts into three-dimensional graphics. The challenge was to balance the fun and engaging setting for the target audience with professionalism as an educational technology brand.

Primary Residence

Primary Residence is a typeface design that turns minimal architectural forms into letters and numbers, using the three primary colors red, blue and yellow. Each character shows a small part of a building, without a clear entry or exit. Stairs, windows and geometric shapes refer to the Bauhaus movement and to minimalist architecture. The design was also informed by stairs and windows observed in different parts of the world. The sketches were made on paper, based on photographs of real buildings. The aim is to blend the form and the identity of the structure.

Miniature Size Landscape

Miniature Size Landscape is a photography series that presents small natural scenes as if they were vast worlds. Grasses, mosses, flowers and other plants growing at the feet of passers-by become the setting. A one inch tall dwarf figure travels through each scene, and every view is composed as if seen through the eyes of that dwarf. The images are made with a wide macro lens, focus stacking for deep focus, and linear, occlusive and aerial perspective. The aim is to recall the imagined worlds of childhood and to encourage care for nature.

The series was produced through location scouting, outfit making, pose and prop planning, lighting setup, shooting and digital editing. The intent is to express the purity of childhood dreams.

IKARUS

Ikarus is a photography series showing preserved bird specimens from extinct or highly endangered species. Each bird is portrayed in the manner of a Rembrandt painting, and the background of every portrait is a macro photograph of the feathers of that bird. The specimens were photographed in the ornithology collection of the Senckenberg Institute in Dresden, Germany. The title refers to the legend of Icarus, who flew too high and fell into the sea. Ikarus is the third part of a series collection called Neglect. The works are produced on ChromaLuxe material in limited editions.
